# Seedance 2.5 vs Seedance 2.0: What's Different and Which to Use (2026)

*ByteDance now ships two current Seedance video models, and most coverage doesn't say which one it means. Here's the actual split, with API pricing.*

Seedance 2.5 released on July 31, 2026, five months after Seedance 2.0 arrived in February and pulled AI video into the mainstream news cycle. That leaves two current Seedance models with different strengths, and the version number hides the real trade-off: 2.5 is not simply “2.0 but better.” It generates twice the clip length and follows far more reference material, but on API access it tops out at 1080p while 2.0 goes to 4K, and 2.0 is cheaper at every resolution.

The short version: Seedance 2.5 for length and control, Seedance 2.0 for resolution and price.

## **TL;DR comparison**

<!-- unsupported block: table -->

Capability rows are ByteDance's published specs; resolution and pricing rows are what's live on the [Yotta AI Gateway](https://www.yottalabs.ai/ai-gateway), where both models run behind one API.

## **What Seedance 2.5 actually changes**

Three things separate 2.5 from its predecessor in practice.

**Length and narrative. **The single-request ceiling doubles from 15 to 30 seconds, and multi-round extension continues a scene while keeping characters and setting consistent. ByteDance's framing is one-take creation: a clip with setup, development, and resolution generated as one piece instead of stitched fragments. If you've fought continuity errors gluing 5 second clips together, this is the headline feature.

**Reference capacity. **2.5 accepts up to 50 reference assets in one request: 30 images, 10 video clips, and 10 audio clips, against 2.0's 9/3/3. For brand-consistent work, that's the difference between describing your product and character in prose and just showing the model every angle of them.

**Editing precision. **2.5 takes timestamp-level instructions, so a prompt can direct what happens at 0-3 seconds, at 3-5 seconds, and what the voiceover says over each. It also adds green screen editing and camera perspective changes. 2.0 supports targeted edits, but not with frame-level timing control.

ByteDance also reports improved textures, skin and eye detail, and lighting, aimed at the plastic look AI video is known for. That's a vendor claim; judge it on your own outputs.

## **Where Seedance 2.0 still wins**

**4K. **On the Gateway, 2.0 is the only Seedance 2.x model that renders 4K ($0.78/s). If the deliverable is a hero asset for a large screen, 2.0 is the only option in the family.

**Price. **2.0 costs less at every shared resolution: $0.16/s vs $0.24/s at 720p, $0.38/s vs $0.42/s at 1080p. For high-volume pipelines producing short clips, the difference compounds. A hundred 8 second 720p clips cost $128 on 2.0 and $192 on 2.5.

**Fit for short work. **Most production video generation today is under 15 seconds: ads, product loops, social clips. Everything 2.0 does well lands inside that window, and paying the 2.5 premium for a 6 second product loop buys you capacity you won't use.

## **What a real project costs**

Per-second billing makes cost planning simple. Some realistic numbers from Gateway pricing:

<!-- unsupported block: table -->

The workflow that keeps budgets in check: iterate at 480p, lock the prompt, then render the final at your target resolution. At 480p an iteration on 2.0 costs $0.08 per second, so ten drafts of an 8 second clip run $6.40 before the $3.04 final at 1080p.

## **Choose Seedance 2.5 if**

- Your clips need to run past 15 seconds, or extend into multi-minute sequences
- You're doing brand or character work that benefits from dozens of reference assets
- Your prompts direct timing: shot lists, beats, synchronized voiceover
- You need green screen output or camera perspective edits

## **Choose Seedance 2.0 if**

- The deliverable is 4K
- Clips are 15 seconds or under and volume is high, so per-second price dominates
- You're testing whether AI video fits your pipeline at all and want the cheapest credible starting point in the 2.x family

## **Access both without picking a vendor**

Both models are live on the [Yotta AI Gateway](https://www.yottalabs.ai/ai-gateway) in text-to-video and image-to-video form (seedance-2.5-t2v, seedance-2.5-i2v, seedance-2.0-t2v, seedance-2.0-i2v), through the same API key and billing as the Gateway's text model catalog. Switching between them is a model-string change, so the honest answer to “which one” can be: draft on 2.0, and re-render the clips that need length or precision on 2.5. Setup is covered in the [Seedance API guide](https://www.yottalabs.ai/post/how-to-use-seedance-api-generate-video-2026), and the launch details are in the [announcement post](https://www.yottalabs.ai/post/seedance-2-5-and-2-0-yotta-ai-gateway-video-api).

## **Frequently asked questions**

**Is Seedance 2.5 a replacement for 2.0?**

No. ByteDance ships them as siblings, and on the Gateway API 2.0 keeps exclusive features, most notably 4K output and lower per-second pricing.

**How long can Seedance 2.5 videos be?**

Up to 30 seconds in a single request, with multi-round extension for longer content. Seedance 2.0 caps at 15 seconds per request.

**Which is better for image to video?**

Both have i2v variants that take a required first frame and optional last frame. 2.5's larger reference budget helps when you're steering with many assets; for a single product image animated for a few seconds, 2.0 is cheaper.

**What does Seedance cost through an API?**

On the Yotta AI Gateway: Seedance 2.0 runs $0.08 to $0.38 per second from 480p to 1080p and $0.78/s at 4K; Seedance 2.5 runs $0.11 to $0.42 per second up to 1080p. See [pricing](https://www.yottalabs.ai/pricing).

**Does audio cost extra?**

No. On the Gateway, generating audio doesn't change the per-second rate for either model.

**Can Seedance 2.5 make 4K video?**

Not through the Gateway API today. 4K in the Seedance 2.x family is a 2.0 capability.

**Do I need separate accounts to use both?**

No. Both are on the Yotta AI Gateway under one key, one bill, and the same async video API.
